CHAPTER 12: THE WAY TO THE CASTLE
Robin walks hard until the sounds of the dragon's rage are muffled
by distance and the ancient quiet of the wood.
Eventually, he collapses beside the gnarled roots of a massive oak.
He has followed Lyra's advice: he is deep in the woods, safe from aerial view.
But somehow, he has lost the trail. Now he feels hopelessly lost. The trees, his shield,
are now a prison of bewildering sameness. He needs direction. He needs a destination.
"No wonder the Necrotic Lord can't find these paths," he mutters to himself.
"They're hard to find!"
As darkness starts to settle, Robin becomes desperate. His thoughts turn dark.
He can't find the path. Every direction looks the same - endless trees, deepening shadows.
A small voice whispers in his mind. He thinks it might be Sophia,
guiding him to remember his "WHY". The voice reminds him of his purpose,
of why he started this journey.
Robin sits down on the dark path.
Slowly, he stops and truly confronts his "why". It's not just about money.
It's about breaking a cycle of endless, meaningless work.
He thinks of Elena and the kids. Their faces flash through his mind - not as a burden,
but as his most profound motivation. He wants to show them something
more than just surviving. He wants to demonstrate that dreams aren't
just fairy tales. They're blueprints for transformation.
This journey isn't about escaping his current life. It's about creating
a different path. A path where he's not just a worker, but a creator.
Where his children will see that comfort zones are meant to be challenged,
that purpose matters more than just a paycheck.
He wants to give his family something beyond financial security. He wants to
give them an example of courage. Of believing in yourself when everything
says you shouldn't. Of stepping into the unknown with nothing but determination.
If he can break free, if he can find this "Land of Time Freedom", he'll
prove something fundamental: that ordinary people can do extraordinary things.
That limitation is often just a story we tell ourselves.
As these thoughts crystallize, something shifts inside him.
Not just a memory, but a profound sense of direction. The way becomes
not just clearer, but inevitable.
Slowly, as he focuses on his deepest motivation, something shifts.
A memory surfaces from the Magic Book - not quite a map, but a sense of direction.
The way becomes clearer.
With renewed determination, Robin finds a path. The trees seem to part slightly,
almost imperceptibly. He walks, each step more confident than the last.
Finally, as the last light fades, a castle appears on a distant hill. His destination
reveals itself, emerging from the misty forest like a promise.
Robin looks around. He is bathed in the last rays of sunlight, the forest
now behind him. His clothes are still gritty with cave dust and damp with forest sweat.
But he has found his way.
Lyra's voice echoes in his memory: Stay off the open paths. But something
inside him - that deep understanding of his "why" - guides him forward now.
He pushes himself to his feet, a renewed, almost magnetic pull propelling him.
He remembers the different paths he's encountered - the "Easy Path"
that promised nothing, and now this new path, the "Paid Path".
"I've already wasted so much time," he mutters to himself.
"Might as well see what this teaches me."
Before him stands the road he had seen, leading to the castle - distant,
yet somehow familiar. The landscape shifts, as if responding
to his newfound determination.
Robin takes a deep breath. This path feels different. Not magical,
not easy, but purposeful. Each step is a choice. Each step is a statement to himself,
to his family, to the world: he is not just surviving, he is creating something meaningful.
The castle beckons, a symbol of the transformation he seeks.
Robin looks around and realizes he has emerged onto a hill that seems
to rise from nowhere. The landscape shifts dramatically - from dense,
challenging forest to this open, majestic terrain.
Down below, a lake spreads out like a mirror of polished glass, its surface
reflecting the sky in breathtaking blues and soft grays. The water looks impossibly still,
as if holding its breath in anticipation of his journey.
Gone are the fallen branches, yellowing leaves, and gnarled roots that had
made his previous path treacherous. Instead, a smooth cobblestone path winds
gracefully up the hill toward the castle gates. Each stone seems placed
with purpose, inviting him forward, promising something
extraordinary just beyond the horizon.
The path ahead is clear. Intentional. Waiting.
